An Easy to Use Guide for How To Decorate Your Bedroom and Home Without Colour Fear
Trying to choose colours when decorating a room can be tricky. You may well have fitted bedroom furniture that you need to tie your colours in with. Throughout your home, whether it be your bathroom, lounge or media room you will likely have existing furniture you want to tie these colours in with. This season there is a massive move over to using bold colours within rooms, and in particular, a lot of use of complimenting and contrasting colours.
There are some simple rules you can follow to help when choosing the colours for your rooms and it’s accessories. Firstly, make sure you use the colour wheel (shown below). Whenever you are unsure, it can steer you back on course, however obvious it may seem.
If you want your room to have colours that compliment and work well together, choose your main colour and then use one or two colours that touch it either side. For example, if you have a room that is red, you can use touches of purple and orange to accent it. If you are feeling more brave and want to go for this seasons bold colour style, choose colours that are opposite each other in the colour wheel.
There are also base colours that are not counted in regards to the colour wheel, which can give you more freedom. White, black, grey and beige don’t feature, which means you can use these with abundance and still then go ahead and add more accent colours. In the fitted bedroom below the base is white and oak, which means we could go crazy with grey and silver paper and hot pink accessories.

Blue and Orange is definitely a dramatic look, but will pay dividends if done properly. This seat from Marks and Spencers in this seasons Turquoise is absolutely stunning – coupled with the pink cushion (remember – opposite side of the wheel!) it is a real talking point.
Bright and bold colours in the lounge area can look fantastic, as you can see with this striking orange media room. With high gloss painted furniture in Tangerine, and this stunning bucket chair, it makes a real impact.
Make your bed the focal point by using a dramatic headboard and feature wall paper, as well as a fitted bed sheet to add a really add a dramatic impact. Keeping the fitted bedroom furniture white ensures the room doesn’t become too overpowering.
